A girl is born in Ajmer, India. Her family is poor, so her mother finds a way to make money as a sex worker. It offers higher paying work with more flexible hours than the alternative factory and retail jobs. As a sex worker, her mother is considered a criminal and is ostracized from her community. And as a criminal, her children – the girl – can be kicked out of school at a moment’s notice. When that happens, her education ends and her opportunity for a better life is over. Maybe this girl will have to turn to the same trade as her mother.
This girl’s fate is shared by most children of sex workers. Her mother once had dreams of her own that didn’t include living in disgrace. This is the story of an Anchal artistian.
